It's National Principals Month so we're getting to know our two principals a little better. Here are some things you may not know about our Assistant Principal, Anthony Smith:
1. Grew up Germany and Annandale, Virginia.
2. Has an older sister who lives in Bremen, Germany and a younger sister who lives in Colorado.
3. Earned mainly Bs and Cs in high school, but thinks he had ADHD because he was not very good at paying attention in school. But he was an avid reader and got by because he could read anything.
4. Was and still is a soccer player and played soccer in high school as well as on the varsity team at JMU.
5. Got his undergraduate degree from JMU and Master's degrees from George Mason University and Western Governor's University.
6. Has lived in Germany, in Cyprus for two years, and Costa Rica for a year.
7. Married to Renata and have two daughters, Ariana and Maya. Ariana is in her third year at UVA Law and Maya is in her last year at Eastern Mennonite University, majoring in Social Work.
8. Enjoys building things out of old wood, gardening, and playing soccer in his spare time.
9. Has worked at every local high school and knows students need the opportunity to work with their hands, the opportunity to dig deeply into a topic that really interests them, and the opportunity to get a great paying job right out of high school. CATEC is that opportunity! He’s seen reluctant learners transform into energetic and motivated learners at CATEC. It's a magical place.
10. When he retires he’s going to finish fixing up his old house, master Spanish, ride his bicycle around Ireland, and build a house in Costa Rica.

We're excited to announce that CATEC will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, Oct 14. The Taqueria Chaparro food truck will be feeding all CATEC students & staff free of charge during your CATEC block. We're excited to celebrate our diversity w/ our community.

Our AM and PM Carpentry students have been hard at work building storage sheds. These projects require teamwork, math, hand tools, and communication skills.

It's National Principals Month so we're getting to know our two principals a little better. Here are some things you may not know about our Director, Stephanie Carter:
1. Grew up in Chase City, VA.
2. Has 2 brothers: one older and one younger.
3. Did well in high school but could have been a better student.
4. Played the trumpet for a bit, but chose to work after school very early on; had first job in a small gift shop at age 11.
5. Went to Granville Community College, ECU, and Longwood University for college.
6. Family moved to Charlottesville in 2011.
7. Married to her husband Kevin for 21 years this month and has one child, Samantha.
8. Enjoys cooking, working in her yard, walking/hiking in the woods, spending time with her family, and loves sitting around the fire pit this time of the year.
9. Loves CATEC’s students and the opportunities provided to them at CATEC. For many of our students, we are their post-secondary plan. They can come to CATEC, earn a credential, learn the soft skills they need, and be ready to take on the world with NO STUDENT DEBT! The CATEC faculty and staff are also amazing.
10. Hopes to travel, travel, travel explore the world when she retires.

Today we’re giving a big shout out to our maintenance and custodial team for all their hard work in keeping our building clean and safe. Our building has never looked as good as it does under their care. Thank you Benji, Carlos, and Dee for everything you do!
