CATEC is looking for a part-time EMT instructor for the 2021 Summer semester.

The impact you will have:

You will be sharing your expertise as an EMS Education Coordinator to teach the 70+-hour EMT class. This class prepares high school and adult learners to take their National Registry EMT certification exam to become an Emergency Medical Technician. Upon successful completion of the NREMT exam, students will earn both National Registry and Virginia EMT certification.  Your students want to take their skills and training to the next level. We do what we do because of them.

Who we are:

We are a small office that serves the local trade industry by offering Department of Labor and Industry approved apprenticeship classes, as well as adult education programs, for local adults wanting to change their careers or receive skills training to help them find employment. We pride ourselves on being committed to our students, and we work closely with our area businesses and community partners. Click here to read more about CATEC’s mission and vision.

What knowledge, skills, and abilities we need you to have:

The candidate shall hold a current, unrestricted Virginia EMS Education Coordinator certification.

What you will be doing:

The class is approximately 10 weeks in length starting June 14, 2021 and will meet Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-9:00 p.m. However, you will have the latitude to set up the class as you would like to. If you are tech-savvy, you could teach this as a hybrid course with some of the class time being virtual. The course prepares students to be successful at passing the National Registry EMT certification exam.  During the course, students must complete certain requirements in order to qualify to sit for the certification test.  (Some of these are set by the Office of EMS, some requirements are set by the program director/instructor.)  Sitting for the NREMT is NOT a guarantee that comes with enrollment in the program. Clinical rotations on an in-service ambulance and/or in a hospital Emergency Department are required for certification testing, and must be scheduled outside of class meeting times.  (Details and scheduling information will be provided in class.)

Why you will want to work here with us:

  • We change lives through the valuable work that we do for our students and our local business and community partners.

  • No two classes are ever the same.

  • Salary: up to $34.51 per hour based on your qualifications and experience.

This is what one of our graduates had to say about their training at CATEC:

“I will tell you, CATEC played a big part in where I’m at today. Making the decision to attend CATEC was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. It is the school that helped shape my career, absolutely.”

Michael Lynch, Director of Plant Operations ~ Poplar Springs Hospital
